Introduction
The St. Stythians Male Voice Choir is based in Stithians, a Cornish village centred in an area bounded by Falmouth, Helston, Redruth and Truro. The Choir was formed in 1947 (though records show that a choir existed intermittently from 1913). It is a founder member of the Cornish Federation of Male Voice Choirs. The Choir sings throughout Cornwall - from St. Buryan to Bude - and beyond. Through touring, links have been established with several other choirs including Croydon, Snowdown (Kent), Saddleworth (Lancs), Worcester, Budleigh Salterton, Beaufort (Ebbw Vale), Treharris, the Merthyr Tydfil Ladies Choir, and the Pontarddulais Male Choir. In 2004 we also met Audley MVC (at home), and Hart and Weybridge MVCs (away). We made a return visit to Audley in May 2007. A highlight of 1999 was a visit to Malta to participate in the 11th Malta International Choir Festival (we took third place). Highlights of 2000 were appearances on national and local BBC-TV's Children in Need, live from The Eden Project and at the Royal Albert Hall for the massed Cornish male voice choirs concert. We have appeared at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon on three occasions in the recent years, the most recent being in June 2006. Participating in the 2003 Camborne Music Festival, the choir won the Ewart Kinsman cup for First place in the Advanced Male Voice Choir section. We won the Holman Challenge Cup at the County Music Festival in 2004.The Choir made a full commitment to the first three Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival in 2003. 2005 and 2007 (see International Festival). The Choir celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2007 with several special events. We perform 20 or more concerts per year. Lighter, more modern music, together with some of the more traditional 'grand' male voice items, spirituals and hymns makes the Choir much in demand.

St. Stythians Male Voice Choir - A Brief History, written by Stan Stephens and produced by David Hutson was published in January 2008. The book (A5 format, 52 pages with 13 illustrations) gives more detail than can be included on this website. It traces the history of the choir, insofar as we know it, from 1913. The names of almost 170 members of the Choir since 1947 are included in an appendix. The book can be obtained, priced £3, from Stan Stephens (01209 860077) or David Hutson (01326 319943). It will also be available at our concerts.

The Choir currently numbers some 46 members. Practices are held every Tuesday, 7.30 p.m. at Stithians Methodist Church. Potential new members are always welcome.
